POST-EVENT SUMMARY:
Dr. Keith Smith gave a very provocative lecture that challenged the way a lot of the people in attendance have been taught about the true cost of providing health care. Dr. Smith was especially a big hit with students who are members of our school’s Entrepreneurial Track program. That isn’t to say that everyone agreed with his conclusions, but no one could argue with his results.
After the lecture, Dr. Smith spent 20 minutes just answering questions about the Surgery Center of Oklahoma. Some people still had concerns about the viability of the model in providing access to the poorest of the poor, but overall people seemed genuinely surprised at just how well the model worked–not only for the physicians, but more importantly for the patients.
Dinner was provided before the lecture which provided time for students to interact with Dr. Smith.
