ALL are welcome to join us in a Skype teleconference with Dr. Keith Smith, Co-Founder of the Surgery Center of Oklahoma. Dr. Smith is making a special appearance for the BRI-Saint Louis University Chapter and other interested students to discuss price transparency in medicine. We will learn about his pricing model at the Surgery Center of Oklahoma with a question and answer session following.

We also hope to discuss how price transparency will affect the medical field in general and how we can help facilitate free markets in our future profession.

The Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine - BRI Chapter will be pairing up with the Thomas More Society and Operation Leftover to meet and serve the homeless and impoverished in Indianapolis. We will meet at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church to take canned foods, warm clothing, personal hygiene items, and other appropriate donations to people in need around downtown Indianapolis.

ALL are welcome and invited to join us in an evening of service. Donations are also appreciated.

BRI-Mount Sinai and The Arthur N. Rupe Foundation will be hosting a debate and a discussion about the legality of physician aided dying. Please join us to debate the following Resolution:

It should be legal for doctors to participate in intentionally hastening a patient's death.

Arguing the Affirmative: Dr. David Leven, Executive Director of Compassion & Choices of New York.

Arguing the Opposition: Dr. Stefan Baumrin (Ph.D. Johns Hopkins University and J.D. Columbia University School of Law) will debate the question of whether physicians should participate intentionally in hastening a patient's death. Following the debate, students will break out into small groups to discuss the issue further. Issues related to physician autonomy, patient wellbeing, and the intersection of ethics, law, and government will be explored.

Government involvement in medicine is not a new thing, and policies from the past are currently influencing the healthcare climate today. In what ways are government policies in healthcare beneficial, and in what ways detrimental? And what can be done?
