The need for affordable, high quality medical care in the US is an ongoing discussion. There are some exciting models that are achieving these goals, both in the US and internationally: cash-based practices like Direct Primary Care and the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, the non-profit Aravind Eye Care system of India, and the for-profit hospitals of cardiac surgeon, Devi Shetty, MD. What can we learn from these entrepreneurial models to help address the cost and access challenges our country faces?
