You are cordially invited to join BRI-UAB chapter officers and faculty advisor for an informal talk about Benjamin Rush Institute's purposes and goals, to learn how we seek to grow this BRI chapter, and what we intend to accomplish this coming academic year by way of educational, fun and informative events. This meeting is especially geared towards MS1 and MS2 students looking for a like-minded group to be involved in, and all are welcome. Faculty advisor Dr. Thomas Huddle will provide remarks on the current trajectory and future of healthcare in the United States.

Pizza and refreshments will be served.

About Dr. Thomas S. Huddle:
Dr. Huddle completed undergraduate, graduate and medical school work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he completed an MD PhD (history of medicine). He then did internal medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison WI and went on to complete a general medicine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program).

Dr. Huddle pursues conceptual research/scholarship in the history of medicine, medical ethics, medical professionalism and medical education.

In March 2016, BRI board member and med-peds doctor Juliette Madrigal-Dersch, MD, spoke to BRI student leaders at our annual leadership conference about her joy in running an independent cash practice in rural Texas, and why free market healthcare policies make sense.

Dr. Matt Davis, orthopedic surgeonAll are welcome and encouraged to attend this talk with Dr. Matthew Davis, an orthopedic surgeon who runs a price-transparent private practice in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Davis is affiliated with St. Vincent's Birmingham and received his medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Davis has been in practice for 16 years and will deliver remarks about his journey as a medical doctor in private practice.

Dr. Davis loves what he does every day, because it allows him to be hands-on, solve problems, and build great relationships with his patients. He enjoys being able to give patients answers, resolve their ailments, and put them on a track toward comfort and mobility. He has 10 years of experience working as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, helping people by doing everything from ACL repairs to managing osteoarthritis.

Come find out about Dr. Davis's reflections on the changing nature of medical care delivery and how his system has been phenomenally successful for both himself and for his patients.
